Le Phare’s Lantern: Racanelli Grief and Bereavement Center

When you lose your child, you think you are alone. But at Le Phare, we found professionals who listened, families going through the same grief, and a place where we could feel fully supported.” — A bereaved Phare family

Since 2016, Le Phare has been offering free bereavement support services to all families who have lost a child, whether or not their child received care at Le Phare. With the growing number of requests, it became essential to expand our program to support even more families.

Thanks to the generous support of the Lise & Giuseppe Racanelli Foundation, Le Phare has created The Lantern, a unique center that provides support to grieving families, from perinatal loss to the loss of a child up to 18 years old. The Lantern offers a safe, compassionate, and always free space where parents, siblings, grandparents, and significant loved ones can navigate grief at their own pace—without judgment, and most importantly, without being alone.

Led by Le Phare’s specialized psychosocial team, The Lantern provides flexible, fully personalized support including individual or couple sessions, workshops, support groups, coffee meetings, and online resources. Virtual support is also available for families living in remote regions. The goal is to both normalize and individualize each person’s grieving journey, while expanding our reach to accompany more families through their loss.

The center is open to all bereaved relatives and covers all types of child loss linked to illness, from the perinatal period up to 18 years old. Traumatic deaths—such as those caused by firearms or suicide—fall outside our team’s specific expertise but will be referred to specialized resources that can provide appropriate support.

“Each of us, in our own way, can make a difference in how a family experiences this unexpected journey. Helping a family step out of isolation to join a community of support is essential.” — Marion Onno, social worker at Le Phare
